About

Brian Michie Opticians

Brian Michie Opticians began in 2013 when Brian bought over the Airdrie branch of Black & Lizars, where he had been working for many years. The staff comprises of Marion (Practice Manager), Robyn (Dispensing Optician) and Emma (Optical Receptionist).

We care about what we do, we don't put people under pressure and we want you to be more than pleased with the service you receive from us. We want you to be able to happily recommend us to your family and friends for all their eyecare and eyewear needs.

Eye Health

It is not until we actually think about it that we realise just how much we take our eyes for granted. The health of the eye can also be affected by our general health and certain medications. Conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure can be picked up during a routine eye examination.

In order to maintain our vision at as high a level as possible, for as long as possible regular eye examinations are recommended. This will detect early problems so that action can be taken or advice followed to minimise the risk of damage. Wearing good quality glasses will reduce the chances of strain and allow clear comfortable vision.

In terms of lifestyle choices a diet with lots of fruit and vegetables is the number one best decision anyone can make for their eyesight. Smoking is the number one harmful thing people can do for their eyesight. Protection from UV light exposure when outdoors is definitely advisable.

Sunglasses

Everyone looks cool in sunglasses but protecting the eyes from damaging UV radiation is their primary function. At Brian Michie OPTICIANS any sunglasses we have in stock, as well as any prescription lenses we tint for the sun, will meet or exceed the legal UV protection requirements.

Wearing of sunglasses should not be seen as something that only takes place in the summertime. In the winter the sun is lower in the sky and perhaps bouncing off of a wet pavement or road, so exposure to UV damage and glare may actually be greater.

LENS.

LENS ( Lanarkshire Eye-health Network Scheme). This is for the treatment of minor eye conditions and emergencies in the Lanarkshire area. Its purpose is to relieve the pressure on GP surgeries and Eye Casualty departments in hospitals. Brian has been part of LENS since it began a number of years ago.

COVID

Under current NHS guidelines we are no longer required to wear masks. However, we are happy for you to wear a mask if you wish to. We still have to adhere to strict cleaning processes between appointments.
